Hi, I’m Mike—the guy behind pourtherecord

Why I started pourtherecord

I started pourtherecord to combine my two passions—coffee and vinyl.

Coinciding with my recent ambition to explore the complex world of coffee, I revitalized my passion for collecting physical music and noticed the demographics overlapped. Occasionally, I ran into coffee shops that played records and record shops that served coffee, and that spurred the desire to serve the curiosity of these niche communities.

What specialty coffee and vinyl culture have in common is that each medium is best enjoyed slowly. This blog adds to this notion as a complement to the constant wave of short-form video content. Rather than swiping after three seconds, I encourage my readers to take their time to soak in the nuances and details within each of my posts.

About Mike

I was born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, to two loving parents from the Philippines. I currently reside in the beautiful city of Düsseldorf, Germany. I moved to Germany to complete my international double degree at EBS University. My current 9-5 is in marketing, but my 5-9 is dedicated to coffee and records. The vibrant food and art scene propelled my passions and truly catalyzed this blog.

What kind of coffee does Mike like to drink?

The simple answer is everything.

The more complex answer is an anaerobically fermented Colombian Geisha, cooled down to 55°C to 60°C.

Throughout my journey of binging James Hoffmann and connecting with coffee lovers, I’ve truly been open to anything. I never want to be perceived as a coffee snob because the best coffee is, quite frankly, the coffee you like.

What kind of music does Mike listen to?

My music taste originated from my roots in the church, Filipino karaoke culture, and watching the music video to Eminem’s “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” I therefore gravitate towards hip-hop, soul, and am a sucker for a good ballad.

Over time, I branched out into different genres by being a radio fiend and exploring hip-hop samples.

Nowadays, I’m on the hunt for a good jazz, electronic, prog rock, or non-English record. The likes of Miles Davis, Tangerine Dream, Aphrodite’s Child, and Anri are acts I only discovered in the past few year,s and I love discovering their B-Sides.

While analog has a soft spot in my heart, Spotify is played daily and has helped me discover some fantastic music.

My favourite way of discovering music is asking the owner of a record shop for their recommendation and experiencing the album with their setup. Nothing can replace that.

Let’s continue the conversation

My ultimate goal is to foster a community that grows through curiosity, generosity, and passion. So if you want to provide any suggestions or want to collaborate on a project, I’d be happy to get in contact.
