Process, sometimes stylized as Pr_cess, hails from Belfast, Northern Ireland, and is a lifestyle brand founded by seasoned coffee pro Ben Hamilton, dedicated to making amazing coffee that's intentional, transparent, and memorable. Rooted in community, collaboration, and creativity, Process roasts bright, balanced coffees that honour their origin and the people behind them. With packaging inspired by nostalgic VHS tapes (now featuring 100g tubes, reminiscent of time capsules) and a mission to create “Future Fond Memories,” every cup is crafted to connect, inspire, and elevate your daily ritual. Whether you're a home brewer or coffee owner, Process is here to make your coffee better and your day good.

You can order their beans online, with international shipping options available (subject to varying shipping costs).

Why this coffee is so expensive

For those who are new to coffee, the price is dependent on a few factors: scarcity, reputation, processing method, labor & supply chain, market conditionds, among others. This is a Gesha variety, among the rarest and hardest to grow in the world. It’s therefore delicate and much harder to get the bean just right.

The farmer, Carlos Arcila, purchased the Castellon Farm over 30 years ago and has built a reputation that has set the bar high for coffee farmers around the world.

The fermentation process used is Natural Anaerobic which, in short, when done incorrectly can ruin the flavour of the bean. When done correctly, however, can produce very tropical and sometimes boozy flavours, adding additional layers of flavour complexity.

Hence, why this bean gives off sweet, floral and, to me, wine-like notes.

Is it worth it?

I’m willing to spend this kind of money for a coffee if i’s among the top 10% of coffees I’ve ever tried, and this fits the bill.

I have recently been drinking coffees that produce milder flavours, and I’ve been yearning a brew that raises my eyebrows upon the first sip.

For the average coffee drinker, you wouldn’t think twice, but for a weirdo like me, it’s a once-a-year type of experience I’m willing to drop some cash for.

Coffee Review

I discovered this roaster at my local coffee shop, No Worries, a relatively new addition to the Düsseldorf coffee scene. They’re a multi-roaster serving some of the best coffees in the world. Their recent collaboration with Process Coffee caught my attention with their VHS-inspired packaging. When I popped in, I was disappointed to see that the VHS “tapes” were no longer available, but the 100g tubes were still there.

After reading the label and realizing this wasn’t a cheap purchase, I mustered up the courage to tap away and bring it home.

For coffees like these, I ensure I set up the best conditions at home, namely replacing my Brita filter, cleaning out the grinder, and paying more attention to the brewing process.

The result was a fragrant, floral brew that offered layers of complexity. Upon the second brew, the cherry notes stood out, in addition to a rum-like mouthfeel. Brews like these kickstart my day with energy and peace. While it’s not a daily cup, I would surely serve this to coffee connoisseurs and nerds like myself if they want to taste something beyond their daily cup.

My Rating: 9/10
